The LUDOS Collection was created to preserve traditional games from the past for future generations. Volume Two, titled LUDOS Africa, features four two-player ancient strategy games from across the continent: Yote (Mali), Oware (Ghana), Dara (Nigeria), and Fanorona (Madagascar). The project was supported by more than 2,900 backers on Kickstarter.
Oware – Ghana
Play Time: Approximately 15 minutes
Players: 2
Recommended Age: 6 and up
History: Oware is part of the mancala family of games. Although its precise origin is uncertain, it is widely believed to have developed among the Ashanti people of Ghana.
How to Play: Players take turns sowing seeds into pits around the board. The goal is to strategically harvest seeds from your opponent’s side, and the first to collect 25 seeds wins.
